Why We Love Backpacking In Utah

It’s really quite simple: Backpacking in Utah is completely unique, particularly in the southern Utah canyon country. That’s where Big Wild Adventures runs three outstanding wilderness hiking trips: in the Escalante Canyons, the Grand Staircase Backcountry and in Canyonlands National Park. Information on all of these treks can be viewed on our Utah backpacking website page. The southern Utah backcountry is a big and breathtaking high desert land of canyons and mesas beneath distant snow-capped mountains. The desert vegetation is beautiful, though widely-spaced, except in the canyon bottoms where typically there is water and lush stream-side woodlands of willow, cottonwood, boxelder and many other water-loving species.

There is a clarity in the high desert air that is unmatched. And the rocks! Oh yes, here are some of the most spectacular and colorful rock formations on Earth!  And to sleep under the impossibly bright stars atop a wide open mesa….and then to awaken to sunrise with vistas that seem to go forever. Well, again, there’s simply nothing like the Utah Slickrock Canyon Country. Our guided Utah hiking trips are every bit as spectacular as hiking in the Grand Canyon, but without the crowds and without the strict regulations that accompany crowded hiking areas. Come and join us on a backpacking trip in the wilds of southern Utah!
