Escape Winter: Explore the Wild Everglades by Canoe with Big Wild Adventures
February 7–13, 2027 | Everglades National Park, Florida
Trade the snow and cold for sunshine, wilderness, and an unforgettable paddling adventure through one of America’s most extraordinary national parks!
Imagine gliding quietly through winding mangrove waterways, watching a great blue heron lift off from the shoreline, or spotting an alligator basking in the Florida sunshine. As the day winds down, you arrive at a remote wilderness campsite, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Everglades.
This February, Big Wild Adventures invites you to leave winter behind and join us for a seven-day guided canoeing adventure through the remarkable wilderness of Everglades National Park.
Whether you’re a seasoned wilderness traveler or looking to experience your first multi-day canoeing expedition, this trip offers an incredible opportunity to explore a side of Florida that few visitors ever get to see.

Discover the Wild Side of Florida
Located at the southern tip of Florida, Everglades National Park protects one of North America’s most biologically diverse and fascinating ecosystems.
Unlike the towering mountains and alpine wilderness areas where Big Wild Adventures often travels, the Everglades offers a completely different kind of wilderness experience. Here, the landscape is shaped by water, tides, coastal forests, and an astonishing abundance of wildlife.
Our canoeing adventure will take us through a variety of freshwater and saltwater environments, including winding mangrove passages, open waterways, and coastal areas.
Along the way, we may encounter some of the Everglades’ most remarkable residents:
American alligators and crocodiles
Manatees moving quietly through coastal waters
Great blue herons, egrets, ospreys, and other magnificent bird species
Fish and other aquatic wildlife thriving in this extraordinary ecosystem
Cypress forests, mangrove tunnels, and beautiful subtropical vegetation
One of the most rewarding aspects of wilderness travel is slowing down enough to notice the natural world around us. Traveling by canoe gives us that opportunity, allowing us to experience the Everglades at a pace that makes every bend in the waterway a new discovery.
Seven Days of Paddling, Exploring, and Wilderness Camping
Our Everglades expedition is much more than a sightseeing trip. This is a genuine, multi-day wilderness adventure.
Each day, we’ll paddle through the park’s intricate network of waterways, exploring its diverse landscapes while enjoying the sunshine and mild temperatures that make southern Florida such a wonderful winter destination.
Our overnight camps are particularly special.
Some nights may be spent on chickees, raised camping platforms situated above the water in freshwater areas of the park. Other nights may find us camping on remote coastal beaches, where we can enjoy the ocean breeze and spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness.
When conditions and our route allow, we’ll also have opportunities to explore portions of the park on foot from our campsites.
Evenings in camp are a chance to relax, share stories, enjoy the natural surroundings, and experience the quiet beauty of a wilderness far removed from the crowds and distractions of everyday life.

A Winter Escape Unlike Any Other
One of the greatest attractions of our Everglades trip is the timing.
While much of the country is experiencing freezing temperatures and snow-covered landscapes, southern Florida often enjoys pleasant sunshine and comfortable paddling weather.
During February, daytime temperatures in the Everglades are generally in the 70s, although unusually warm weather can push temperatures considerably higher. Nights are typically mild, with cooler, breezier conditions possible along the coast.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to shake off the winter dust, spend a week outdoors, and recharge in an entirely different environment.
Of course, wilderness travel always brings a little unpredictability. Wind, tides, and changing weather are all part of the Everglades experience, and our daily plans will reflect the conditions we encounter.
That’s part of what makes an adventure an adventure!
Do I Need Canoeing Experience?
No previous paddling experience is required to join this trip!
Our Everglades adventure is rated Fairly Strenuous, primarily because of the physical demands of paddling over multiple days.
While we’re traveling at sea level, headwinds, changing tides, and extended periods on the water can make some days challenging. Participants should arrive in good physical condition and be prepared for an active week outdoors.
This trip is particularly well suited for people who enjoy outdoor recreation, appreciate remote wilderness, and are comfortable with the idea of camping away from developed facilities.
You don’t have to be an expert paddler, but a positive attitude, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to participate in the daily rhythm of a wilderness expedition will go a long way.
What Should I Bring?
Although we’ll be traveling by boat rather than carrying backpacks, we approach packing much as we would for one of our wilderness backpacking trips.
Space in the boats is limited, and keeping gear compact and lightweight makes for a more enjoyable paddling experience.
You’ll want to bring appropriate clothing for warm days and potentially cooler evenings, sun protection, comfortable camp clothing, and personal essentials.
Big Wild Adventures provides a detailed packing list to help participants prepare.

Why Explore the Everglades with Big Wild Adventures?
At Big Wild Adventures, wilderness travel has been our passion since 1978.
We believe that the most memorable adventures aren’t necessarily the ones with the most miles or the biggest accomplishments. They’re the experiences that connect us more deeply with the natural world, introduce us to extraordinary landscapes, and create lasting memories with the people who share the journey.
Our Everglades canoeing adventure reflects that philosophy.
Instead of experiencing the national park from a roadside overlook or a short afternoon excursion, we’ll immerse ourselves in its remarkable environment for an entire week.
We’ll travel by water, sleep in remote camps, watch wildlife, and experience the Everglades as a living, changing wilderness.
It’s a different kind of Florida vacation, and that’s exactly what makes it so special.
